Apple founder Steve Jobs loses cancer battle

Fans of Apple who may have been planning on trading in their old mobile phones for the latest iPhone device may be saddened to hear that Steve Jobs has passed away.

The Apple founder died yesterday (October 5th) after a lengthy battle with pancreatic cancer.

Jobs has been credited with changing the face of modern technology through his iPhone, iPod and iPad inventions.

Tributes to the 56-year-old have been pouring in from across the globe with President Barack Obama and Stephen Fry among those who praised the former Apple chief executive officer.

The company's website today carries an image of Jobs along with the message: "Apple has lost a visionary and creative genius and the world has lost an amazing human being."

Scores of Twitter fans have been expressing their sadness at news of the death with #RIPSteveJobs trending in the top spot.

Jobs founded Apple from his garage and went on to lead the company until his failing health forced him to resign six weeks ago.
