Could demand for video conferencing lead people to sell mobile phones?
12 October 2011
Businesses may be tempted to sell mobiles for cash after hearing how one expert believes video conferencing is set to "increase dramatically".
Nigel Hawthorn, vice president of marketing EMEA at Blue Coat Systems, explained how the technology will become more commonplace in working environments.
"It communicates so much more – it's very engaging and people are much more likely to pay attention and get the information they want out of it," he stated.
According to Mr Hawthorn, video conferencing can help companies to perform more efficient meetings compared with merely speaking on the phone.
However, it was noted that people may experience some problems such as issues with bandwidth and jitter sensitivity.
In addition, home workers will no longer be able to wear casual clothes, but instead will have to take the time to dress appropriately and ensure they are presentable, Mr Hawthorn commented.
His remarks follow a suggestion by founder of girlgeekchic.com Nikki Moore about the rise of smartphones being driven by the demand for easy access to social media sites.
