Could increase in phone signal spark sale of used mobile phones?
04 October 2011

The announcement by the HM Treasury that the government plans to increase spending on mobile coverage may inspire people to sell used mobile phones.

Chancellor George Osborne revealed how the coalition leadership intends to invest as much as £150 million in improving services across the UK.

Next year, the government will begin procuring phone masts in a bid to extend coverage to 99 per cent of the population.

Those who currently find they have poor quality service will hopefully see an improvement when they use their mobiles, as the initiative focuses on the five to ten per cent of consumers and businesses that suffer from meagre signal.

Despite an overwhelming majority of individuals owning a handset, there are still areas in the UK where coverage is non-existent.

Recent research from Ofcom revealed that in the first quarter of 2011 91 per cent of adults in the UK owned/used a mobile phone.
