Laptop recycling news: Managed hosting 'good for cost saving'
10 October 2011
Companies looking to recycle laptops and invest in new devices may be interested in one expert's comments about managed hosting.
Rhianna Collier, vice-president for the software division at the Software and Information Industry Association, explained businesses "will save a lot of money" if they choose such a provider.
"The hosting provider manages all details of the platform, so the customer is not responsible for equipment repairs, 24/7 support and system updates," she stated.
In addition, a company can reduce its costs as it will need either fewer IT staff or in some cases none at all.
When considering employing a managed hosting provider, Ms Collier recommended reviewing the service level agreement carefully to ensure the performance and security abilities of the provider are up to standard.
Elsewhere, those planning to recycle laptops may be inspired by UK vice-chairman for EuroCloud Phil Wainwright's recent recommendation that small companies switch to cloud computing as they can achieve the latest capabilities straight away.
